The 7 Specializations
Visual Communication Design
Solving social issues creatively with visual communication design

In this field, we will explore problem-solving methods and new ways of expressing them, focusing on visual communication design. Through various practical assignments and off-campus design projects, we will cultivate students who can grasp the essence of the problem and collaborate with others to develop creative proposals.

Product Design
Pursue the relationship between people and things, and create essential things from a broad perspective

The Product Design field focused on designing the relationship between people and objects in daily life. In the society today, where we emphasized efficiency and economic value, we might lose sight of the emotional importance of making. The program will develop creativity skills and designing essential products from a broad perspective.

Digital Media Design
Sending new visual experiences to modern society

Information tools such as using video are now a part of everyday life. Appropriate technology and knowledge are required to control and disseminate information. In Digital Media Design, we create and research diverse video expressions that meet the needs of society. While cultivating literacy based on the many video materials, students will acquire skills on new communication expressions using digital technology.

Metal Design
Technology acquisition through dialogue with materials, flexible thinking creates unique expressions

In Japan’s metal crafts, many unique techniques were left by the predecessors that we are proud to show to the world. Students learn the basics of traditional metal-working methods such as engraving, forging and casting, and acquire the applied techniques. Based on solid skills and flexible thinking acquired step by step, students need to consider the way of modern crafts and metal work to explore unique expressions and new directions.

Textiles
Acquire various materials and technologies to explore new expressions in modern society

Since ancient times, weaving and dyeing have been an integral part of people’s daily lives, enriching life and providing colors to the body and life. The Textiles program seeks to re-examine the traditional techniques and look in-depth at the role of weaving, dyeing and textile production in modern society. Also, explore new possibilities of dyeing and weaving that will become more important in contemporary society, from various perspectives such as materials, techniques and knowledge, and the future of dyeing and weaving.

Lacquer Arts
Pursuing the necessity of manufacturing, aiming for creative expression

Lacquer Arts is based on the concept of coexistence with nature. Through understanding the relationship between lacquer and people for over 9000 years, lacquer arts and expressions, the values of people and the convenience of today’s society, you can notice a variety of social problems arise as a result of the pursuit of rationality. Although the three years program is insufficient to master the Lacquer Arts, the experience in Lacquer Arts program will nurture students who can restore the “richness of heart” that people of today are losing.

Contemporary Art and Theory
Learning the cutting-edge expression practice and theory construction, creating expression responding to the needs of present-day society

In the field of contemporary expression, in addition to creating works, students will also acquire the specialized and systematic knowledge of curation and management skills necessary for presenting works. The place of creation from the perspective of society, politics, and history, is an essential point for contemporary artists. For Hiroshima, one of the world’s first bombed cities and world-renowned cities, we will tackle various problems in Japan and the world and aim to produce artists who are active on the international stage.
